With its industrial-chic décor and welcoming ambiance, this hidden gem is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Downtown Arts District restaurants are some of the best in the city, nay, world. You’re sure to find something perfect for date night, a casual meal with friends, or an exciting night out at a five-star dining experience. The north half of the Arts District is a playland of bars, breweries, restaurants, galleries and stores. The international art gallery Hauser & Wirth established itself as a central hub when it debuted in a former flour mill on 3rd Street in the spring of 2016.

The MAC was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for the Water Basket project in the Summer of 2023. Since then, numerous public events, classes and community presentations enabled people to learn more about the project and about Pomo basket designs. Native and non-Native artists and community members have engaged in cultural education and the process of creating and selecting designs for the project. Michael Schwartz’s cozy bistro in the Miami Design District, which opened in 2007, still stands as a bastion of American-style cuisine and hospitable service two decades into its run. Michael’s Genuine presents various options, from raw bar dishes to a chilled seafood platter, spiced lamb with charred eggplant, wood-roasted cauliflower, and the famous black truffle pizza.

The cocktail menu is also a tribute to Italy’s geography and pop culture history. Sofia’s flamingo pink decor, with ruffled umbrellas, teak furnishings, and pink lacquered pieces, adds to the Italian glam theme. Okami, named after “wolf” in Japanese, offers a stunning dining space by Francois Frossard with a sushi bar and second-level lounge overlooking a courtyard. From Cuban-American actors William Levy and Pedro Orihuela, the menu fuses Japanese, Peruvian, and Latin-American influences. Try the succulent pulpo anticuchero (octopus skewers) or grilled hamachi kama starters, and savor black squid rice or misoyaki black cod with truffled black quinoa for the main course. Founded by renowned neon artist Lili Lakich, the studio exudes a sense of innovation and wonder.

The Women's store’s façade will be temporarily wrapped in a jubilant burst of woven colors, patterned after a new Objet Nomade by the Campana Brothers. Inside, Patricia Urquiola has curated an enveloping exhibition of the universe of Objets Nomades, an inspiring journey through the remarkable artistic perspectives of all the Objets Nomades collaborators and an exceptional survey of the Maison’s heritage and savoir-faire. Las Vegas, with a metro area population of nearly 3 million, is one of the largest cities in the country without an art museum. So it was with great fanfare that the city revealed in December that it had approved an “exclusive negotiating agreement” with the Las Vegas Museum of Art to continue work on plans for a proposed 90,000-square-foot, three-story building in Symphony Park.

“We have other partners that help in that funding as well, but [the Irvine Co. and Bren Foundation gift] is a significant amount of money that helps fill that definite need. Without that, we wouldn’t be able to provide the programming for students,” Yu said. As the need for in-person space becomes more & more unpredictable, adaptive reuse projects like this—with no singular program—may continue to be the norm, especially in areas like Los Angeles’ Arts District where old infrastructure is constantly being recycled & redeveloped. And, while the design team made strategic alterations to the exterior—modifying openings, creating a new entry vestibule, and refinishing the facades—they were meticulous in maintaining the building's original aesthetic.

LACMA might be a de facto museum of contemporary art, but frankly it’s not a very good one. Govan and Wynn Resorts co-founder Elaine Wynn sit on both the Vegas museum and LACMA boards. Govan does not expect any conflicts of interest to arise, and points out that many arts leaders occupy multiple board seats across the city and the country. Wynn, who is a LACMA board co-chair, has already given LACMA $50 million — one of the largest single gifts in LACMA’s history — Govan notes, adding that he doesn’t know how much more the L.A. To do this, Sheft Farrace streamlined the build-out and started focusing more on sweeping structural moves rather than erecting smaller interior elements typical of conventional office spaces. They delineated zones of activity through the manipulation of the ground plane.
